What Not To Do In Salem
If you know me, you know that I really enjoy celebrating Halloween. While I am not a big fan of gore or horror, I enjoy the crisp, cool weather that Autumn brings, the changing colors of the leaves, spooky ghost stories told after dark while roasting smores over a fire, getting bundled up in sweaters and blankets and of course, dressing up in costumes on Halloween night. Maybe it’s the promise of mystery and suspense. Or the societal acceptance of being able to get in touch with my inner child and become someone – or something – that only the imagination can conjure. Or the acceptance of all things strange…

What to do on Oahu
We recently went on a spur-of-the-moment trip to Oahu, Hawaii. We worked in the day time, stayed on Texas time (starting at 4am Hawaii Time), and explored the island after work. Thankfully we had our in-laws to watch our little one – who invited us there in the first place – otherwise we wouldn’t be able to swing it. But I would totally do it again in a heartbeat. See below for some of the things we saw and enjoyed while there if you need any ideas! Byodo-In Temple Lahaina Beach Waikiki Beach Aloha Stadium Flea Market Island Vintage Shave Ice Maguro Brothers Hawaii – Waikiki Nu’uanu Pali Diamond…

How to Fly Solo with a Toddler Under Two
Recently, I won the lottery to see the Synchronous Fireflies display in Rocky Fork State Park in Tennesee. I had been applying to this one and the one in Rocky Mountain State Park for years and I finally won! Unfortunately, my husband was out of town in Europe the week the event would occur and no one else in my family was able to go with me. So I decided to venture out on my own with my toddler – a thought that honestly gave me a sick feeling that I tried to quell with preparations. I had recently traveled with our toddler and my husband on an eight-hour flight…

Camping in Autumn in Garner State Park (during COVID-19)
If like me, you’ve heard about the rare Texas Autumn colors at Garner State Park and want to know if they are worth visiting – and maybe you’re just a little bit curious on how I totally transformed into Bear Grylls and melted my sock – keep reading to learn more about our camping adventure this one weekend in November 2020. What You Should Bring: Note that these items are related to camping at Garner State Park, which is what I’d recommend if you are three+ hours away like we are (driving in from Austin, Texas). Tent – we use the Marmot. It’s super easy to assemble, but a little…

How to Tube in Texas during the Covid-19 Pandemic
Even though I’ve lived in Texas for a good chunk of my life, I think I’ve only been tubing maybe like three times? Recently, with all of this heat, I got the hankering to do something that wasn’t so hiking/planning/money intensive and tubing came up on my radar. I had seen someone post about how unpopulated the San Marcos river was and thought that would be a really cool way to spend a Saturday. As there aren’t many people on the river due to the city restrictions on getting in and out of the San Marcos river in the public parks, it can be pretty easy to social distance. But…

How to Travel When You’re Broke!
Once upon a time, I was a college student with a massive amount of debt and I wanted to do something different the summer before my senior year. I was sick and tired of working and sacrificing and studying and having seen my three years of college fly before my eyes without doing anything fun. I had wanted to travel abroad like many of my friends and peers, but unfortunately, hadn’t been able to afford it. I wanted to see places, experience new things, do more than sit in a library. But how? I didn’t have very much money to spend besides my weekly living budget. And that’s how I…

How to Plan Your Dream Wedding on a Budget! – #IfICould[IDo!]ItAgain Series
Part 1: Setting a Budget My Story I still have nightmares about my wedding. I had one just last night as I’m writing this. I’m typically running late for the reception – or I forgot about the reception, and all the guests have already left, disappointed and angry. Or I’m planning my wedding again for no real reason and there isn’t enough money to buy decorations or time to set them up. Or, the worst one yet, I don’t have a dress and thus, I have to make my own and it looks like a I just put on a pink tutu over a slip and I look like a…

How to Make a Cork-board World Map Wall Art
After several queries into how I made the wall-art currently on our wall – and currently a marker of our travel adventures as a couple – I thought I’d post where I got my information from. As it wasn’t my original idea, I got the how-to information from the video below. I don’t have any affiliation with the creators of the video below nor do I claim it as my own video – I’m just sharing their wonderful, informative video for all to see and learn from – like I did! As I added my own unique touches to it, you can to. I bought different flags/pins in order to…

Day-trip to Big Thicket National Preserve – Texas Go-To During a Pandemic
Big Thicket National Preserve – Where to go when there’s nowhere to go. What do you do when you are amidst a pandemic and have a four-day weekend for Memorial Day and all reservations are sold out in every state/national park in Texas you can think of? Answer: You go where no one would think to go. After plenty of of research, we’d decided on making a day-trip to Big Thicket National Preserve from Austin, Texas. Now, I know what you’re thinking – no one would think of going there because it wouldn’t be a place worth going. At least, that’s what I thought – at first. While Big Thicket…

Hiking The Narrows (During COVID-19)
A few months ago, I felt inspired to make a list (maybe it was the quarantine talking). I wrote down all of the things I wanted to do in the next decade. Not surprisingly, many items of said list consisted of various bucket-list locations across the seven continents that I wanted to visit, experience, and see. Although within the states (and relatively, not too far away), one of the very first items I wanted to check off was hiking/visiting The Narrows at Zion National Park. Two years ago, I had the opportunity to visit Zion National Park in May. Unfortunately, the water levels were too high and too cold to…
